Testing On Impaired Dogs
Many of the
impaired dogs included in the Merle paper happened to test with Mh involved.
This was just by chance that these results were found, the paper was never
intended to focus on possible impairments.
Further testing on impaired dogs funded by Keller's
Cause has shown
more interesting results involving Mh.
The following is the list of the original 10 dogs that were included in the Merle paper - 9 have either one or two Mh alleles.
However there are examples of dogs with lesser allele lengths with hearing impairments.
In conjunction with Keller's Cause we have arranged a GoFundMe fund raising campaign in order to test more vision and/or hearing impaired dogs.
Note - all 10 impaired dogs that were included in the Merle paper were tested for Piebald. Several of the dogs tested by Keller's Cause were only tested for Merle due to the cost of the added testing for the S Locus.
The following are the results to date on vision and/or hearing impaired dogs that I will divide into groups based on the longest allele.
Any dogs tested for Piebald (S Locus) will have those results noted on the picture.
Ma+Ma+ - Note - both dogs have a Ma+ allele on the border of M.
